Quarterly Co. Box curated by Book Riot

Quarterly Co. Box curated by Book Riot

Whew! I ended up taking a longer break than anticipated. I am in the process of a few changes in my life and have been busy preparing, packing, and planning. But never fear – if you have been wondering when I would be back – I am back! I hope you can forgive my absence. Also I know it’s Sunday and not Friday but close enough 😉

Next week, I’ll be moving into a bigger place, which will translate into better lighting and (hopefully) nicer pics. I also started classes again (I had taken a bit of a summer break) and work has been hopping. To that end, I have a bunch of recipes ready to try and will start posting food stuff again next week. In the meantime, here are some cool things in and around the internet:

Interesting

  • On September 16, in the early hours of the morning in Texas, the price of electricity was negative dollars – that’s right, electricity producers were paying the states electric supplier to take electricity off their hands. How you ask? Read about it here @ The Night they Drove the Price of Electricity Down.
  • When I first read this article – it scared me. I love visiting Portland and my brother lives there. The Pacific Northwest would be my home if I didn’t already have a pretty good life in the Midwest. Here’s to hoping the Really Big One never hits during my lifetime.
  • There will be a Supermoon full moon next week (9/28), when the moon goes full during it’s closest approach to the Earth in it’s orbit. There will also be a lunar eclipse that night, making for quite a cool show. I don’t know about you but I will be dressing up warmly and dragging my butt outside to somewhere dark & quiet so I can catch the show.

Food

  • Fall is here. Yipee! For me that means I get to start making some of my favorite comfort foods. One of my most favorite foods in the world is Macaroni & Cheese. This Bacon and Truffle Oil Mac & Cheese looks and sounds delish. It will be the first thing I cook in the new place.
  • I grew up eating avocados and pistachios but never together. I didn’t even know guac existed until I moved to Illinois in my early twenties. So who would have guessed that there was such a thing as Pistachio Guacamole? I wouldn’t have but there is and I’m trying it. Nom, nom, nom…..I can’t wait.
  • I love all things chocolate. Even documentaries about it. This is now on my films-to-see list. In Search of the Heart of Chocolate….

Shopping

  • My Quarterly Co. box curated by Book Riot arrived this week! It has two books, both of which sound like “they will have me reading all night and dragging myself into work the next morning with a coffee in each hand just so I can make it through the day” kind of books.
  • I bought a bike this week to go bike riding but have been fighting a cold so no bike riding (sad face). However, I really dig this bike for when I eventually end up getting serious about biking.

Until next week –

Eileen
